Continuing the Apollo Bay Harbour Development Plans .........

Late January and into February 2011, saw the Colac Otway Shire Council announce its intentions to proceed with preparing a Planning Scheme Amendment that would see the re-development of the Harbour Precinct.  The starting point would be the 'conclusions' reached by the 'Enquiry by Design' exercise of September 2008.  (Further details are presented below.)  There was community concern over this issue particularly with regard to the inclusion of a five star, resort style hotel in the Harbour Precinct.

Further community consultation was urged and, to a degree, promised by Council.  In the meantime, Otway Forum have been fortunate enough to gain the services of Graeme Bentley Landscape Architects (GbLA) who, in consultation with Otway Forum, has put forward the plans and sketches presented on this website - see below.  (Graeme has a residence in Apollo Bay.)

 

The far less intrusive Otway Forum proposal (right) provides extensive visitor facilities with far less capital outlay.  It provides substantial visitor parking, cafe along with harbour and marina maintenance facilities.

The “Enquiry by Design” proposal seeks to incorporate a multi story hotel into the harbour precinct along with a “wellness centre”, pool etc.  It requires the realignment of the roadway in the area and, while indicating that the current golf course is retained unaltered, in fact (according to the diagrams included) resumes some 3000 m2 into the access roadway.)  (pdf Document)
